July
This course is designed to enable the student to interact competently and professionally with other
health professionals in acute and non-acute environments. During the course the student will be
exposed to many different types of health environments and clients.
Students are required to undertake ten (10) weeks of clinical placement throughout the course.
Students will attend placements in aged care, acute care, rehabilitation, community and mental
health.
Prior to undertaking clinical placement students must be prepared to declare their health and
immunisation status; complete a National Police Records Check annually; hold a valid Working with
Children Check (WWCC); and be registered as a student with AHPRA.
Clinical placements may be scheduled during holiday periods and students will be required to attend
placements in metropolitan and rural areas. Some theoretical units must be satisfactorily completed
prior to students undertaking clinical placement. Failure of any clinical placement may result in
significant delay in course completion time.
To be awarded the Diploma of Nursing, students must pass both the theoretical and clinical
placement components. Failure in one subject in the course may require the student to repeat an
entire semester, however credit will be given for successfully completed units.
Graduates of this course are eligible to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia to gain
registration. Students achieving an average grade result of 60% or higher will be eligible to enter the
Bachelor of Nursing with one year’s credit.
