COURSE DESCRIPTION
This nationally accredited TAFE SA Award course is suitable for advanced
level international students at IELTS 5.5 level and above. The course is
responsive to individual needs and is taught by a team of teachers with wide
experience and specialist skills in this area. This course aims to
assist international students who intend to do further study at TAFE SA
or university.
The nationally accredited Certificate IV in English Proficiency is delivered in
this course.
This Certificate is recognised by TAFE SA, the University of South Australia
and Adelaide University, and successful completion means students
will satisfy the English language entry criteria for award courses and
undergraduate courses at these institutions with a requirement of an overall
IELTS score of 6.0.
The course has a focus on:
>> Advanced speaking, listening, reading and writing, using complex
academic texts and resources
>> Advanced grammar skills, pronunciation and topic vocabulary
>> Advanced academic study skills, including:
–– Group work & presentation skills
–– Research skills & academic conventions (including avoiding
plagiarism, paraphrasing & referencing)
–– Study/research placement in related study area.
Assessment is continuous and competency based.
There is a final ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency Rating)
assessment. Students must reach ISLPR 3 in all macroskills to achieve
the Certificate.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This nationally accredited program is suitable for advanced level, academic
international students (IELTS 6.0 / International Second Language
Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) 3 and above in speaking, listening, reading and
writing). The course is responsive to individual needs and is taught by a team
of teachers with wide experience and specialist skills in this area.
This course is designed to assist advanced level international students who:
>> Need a high level of English for work or study in their country
>> Intend to do further study at TAFE SA, University of South Australia
or University of Adelaide. Students who have successfully completed
the Diploma of English Proficiency (ISLPR 3+ to 4) will be recognised
as meeting the English Language requirements for entry to UniSA
undergraduate programs and non-language rich post-graduate
programs. Typically language rich programs require an IELTS of 7.0 or
equivalent. Students achieving below ISLPR 3+ to 4 will be required to
submit an IELTS score as required by the program of interest.
The nationally accredited Diploma of English Proficiency is delivered in
this course.
The course has a focus on:
>> Complex academic reading, writing and research skills
>> High level academic speaking and listening
>> Advanced critical literacy
>> English usage in Australian academic setting
>> Preparation for undergraduate and postgraduate study including:
–– Group work and presentation skills
–– Research skills and academic conventions (including paraphrasing,
referencing and avoiding plagiarism)
–– Academic writing e.g. reports and essays
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is continuous and competency-based.
In addition, there is a final language assessment by English Language
Centre assessors. Students should reach ISLPR level 3+ in all macroskills to
achieve the Diploma. Many students exit this course at a level approximately
equivalent to an IELTS score of 7.0

Academic IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5 or
equivalent. Satisfactory completion of Year 12 or overseas equivalent.
