COURSE DESCRIPTION/SKILLS COVERED
Basic accounting for fieldwork; basic field
geology and geophysics; bushcraft and
radio communications; communicating in the
workplace; computer operations; electricity
for field assistants; exploration grid layout; field
assistant camp and camp support; following
OHS procedures; geochemical sampling and
computing; geoscience industry orientation;
GPS; introduction to 4WD vehicle operation
and recovery; introductory environmental care;
map reading; motor maintenance; sampling and
drilling; senior first aid for remote areas; small
motor maintenance.

26 core units: Apply an understanding of
hydrogeology to the workplace; apply an
understanding of structural geology to
the workplace; apply economic geology
knowledge and practices in the workplace;
apply fundamentals of soil science to resource
exploration; Apply geological processes
knowledge and practices to the workplace;
apply geophysical methods to field survey;
apply GIS software to problem-solving
techniques; apply mineralogy and petrology
knowledge and practices in the work place;
collect spatial and discrete environmental data;
connect, maintain and configure hardware
components; design databases; develop and
use complex spreadsheets; implement and
maintain environmental management plan;
manage conflict; manipulate and analyse GIS
data; measure and sketch site information;
obtain representative samples in accordance
with sampling plans; plan and conduct major
survey expeditions; plan and conduct survey
