ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Academic IELTS score of 5.5 overall with minimum of 5.0 in all bands or equivalent. Satisfactory
completion of Year 12 or overseas equivalent.
COURSE DESCRIPTION/SKILLS COVERED
23 core units: Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework; develop cultural competence; ensure
the health and safety of children; provide care for children; promote and provide healthy food and
drinks; provide care for babies and toddlers; develop positive and respectful relationships with children;
use an approved learning framework to guide practice; establish and maintain a safe and healthy
environment for children; foster the holistic development and wellbeing of the child in early childhood;
nurture creativity in children; facilitate compliance in an education and care service; establish and
implement plans for developing cooperative behaviour; implement strategies for the inclusion of all
children; promote children’s agency; analyse information to inform learning; design and implement
the curriculum to foster children’s learning and development; embed sustainable practices in service
operations; work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care services;
identify and respond to children and young people at risk; provide an emergency first aid response in
an education and care setting; work effectively with Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander people;
maintain work health and safety; plus 5 elective units.
Electives may include: Meet information needs of the community; reflect and improve on own
professional practice; coordinate the work environment; work effectively with culturally diverse clients
and co workers.
A satisfactory police check and/or DECS criminal history screening will be required at the expense of
the student prior to commencing a vocational work placement or gaining employment. All students are
required to complete vocational placements and be assessed in the workplace.
