This course provides the skills and knowledge for those who wish to work in film and television
production, post-production and production management areas.
Graduates may find employment in areas such as camera operation, sound production,
the production of special effects, assisting the director/producer, production coordination,
postproduction of sound and/or images, lighting production or self-employment.
Students who successfully complete the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media will also receive
the Diploma of Screen and Media. On successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Screen
and Media students will be eligible for entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Screen
Production. It will take a further two years of study to complete the degree.
Design
Certificate IV in
Applied Fashion
Design and
Technology

The Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Technology provides a general grounding in basic
fashion design, including identifying fibres and fabrics, fashion illustration, designing and creating
patterns and blocks, making and manufacturing and using electronic fashion design tools. The
course delivery incorporates simulated workplace activities.
Students will graduate from the course with a sound knowledge of the fashion design process
and have skills to obtain entry level work in occupations such as assistant designers and pattern
makers who work with and support other fashion industry personnel.
During the course students will produce a folio of work which can be used when applying for further
studies in a variety of fashion and textiles courses at diploma and degree programs.
Students who achieve a credit average across all subjects will be eligible for direct entry into the
Bachelor of Fashion (Apparel Engineering and Design) at Holmesglen.

This course is a foundation program for students wishing to enter into Art and Design courses but
who do not have the necessary background.
The course aims to provide:
1. A general grounding and opportunities to refine skills for further studies in Design;
2. The opportunity to prepare a folio of work which may be used to seek entry into courses at
diploma or degree level;
3. Entry-level skills for a range of occupations in the design industries, ranging from graphic art and
design, fine arts and multimedia.
Advanced Diploma of
Graphic Design

The Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design provides a broad range of skills and knowledge for use in
the field of graphic design. It develops the ability to provide design work appropriate to needs and
standards and the ability to plan and select appropriate services and techniques for the graphic
design industry. A Diploma of Graphic Design is incorporated into the Advanced Diploma of Graphic
Design.
Graduates may apply to work in the field of graphic design creating designs in response to
organisations’ requirements or as freelance designers or apply to university for further study at
undergraduate level with advanced standing.
Students who do not meet the entry requirements for this course may undertake the Certificate
IV in Design (refer to above entry). Satisfactory completion of the Certificate IV in Design provides
guaranteed entry to the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design.
On successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design at Holmesglen, students
could apply for a credit pathway into the Bachelor of Graphic Design (see page 24 for details) or into
the Deakin University’s Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Communication Design). Applications and
credit exemptions will be assessed on an individual basis.
