Documentation required
When you apply to UQ, please ensure that
you submit up-to-date transcripts and award
certificates with your application. You should
submit copies certified by a Justice of the
Peace, a Notary Public (i.e. a practising
solicitor) or similar government official in
your country, or by one of UQ’s authorised

are required for all documents in languages
other than English.
If you are waiting for transcripts or current
results, you may still submit an application.
Please note, however, that you
must
attach
documents for English proficiency (unless
you intend to sit a test), and post-secondary
results to your application form.
Please forward any outstanding
documents as soon as you receive them
to UQ’s International Admissions Section.
Please ensure that these documents are
clearly marked with your UQ Student ID (if
available), family name, first name, date of
birth, proposed program and a note that an
application has already been submitted.
Application status
To enquire about how your application is
progressing, please email
with your full
name, date of birth, and UQ Student ID (if
available). If you do not yet have an ID, it is
also useful to advise the date you applied.

VISAS
All international students applying to study
in Australia must have a student visa.
You must undertake programs on campus
at UQ on a full-time basis to be eligible to
apply for an Australian student visa.
Applications and processing of student
visas can take up to six months and you
will have to pay an application fee. This
does not apply to SVP applicants. It is your
responsibility to ensure that you receive your
visa in enough time to commence studies at
the University.
For all visa enquiries and applications,
please contact your local Australian
Embassy, High Commission, or Diplomatic

your studies, you will require a guardian to
be with you in Australia. The University of
Queensland cannot act as a guardian, nor

WHO IS AN
INTERNATIONAL
STUDENT?
You are an international student if you are:
– a Temporary Resident (visa status) of
Australia
– a Permanent Resident (visa status) of New
Zealand, or
– a resident or citizen of any other country.
You are
not
an international student if you are:
– an Australian citizen (living in Australia or
as a resident overseas),
– an Australian Permanent Resident
(visa status), or
– a New Zealand citizen.
Permanent residency
If you become a permanent resident before
starting your first semester of study, and you
have been offered a place as an international
student, you will not be able to retain that place.
Instead, you must apply for a Commonwealth
supported place (CSP) through the Queensland
Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). See
for details.
If you are already enrolled at UQ as an
international student and your status changes
to permanent resident (PR), you may be eligible
for fees as a domestic full-fee student. Please
contact the Academic Registrar before Census
Date (see page 61) with your supporting
documentation to confirm your place as a
domestic student and to apply for a refund.
(Please note that if your status changes after
Census Date, no refund applies.)
