UQ participates in and assists students to
apply for student loan programs offered
by their home countries to cover some
educational expenses while enrolled as
a full-time student in UQ programs. UQ
participates in a number of programs,
including the US Title IV Direct Loan
Programs, US Veterans Affairs, US Private
Loans, Canadian Provincial and Federal
Loan programs, German Bafög, Norwegian
Lånekassen, Danish “SU” Education
Support Agency, and Swedish CNS Loans.

SCHOLARSHIPS
UQ provides more than AU$39 million in
scholarship funding support each year for
the living and tuition expenses of research
higher degree candidates (RHD).
If you are a current or prospective RHD
student, you may be eligible for financial
support for tuition fees and living allowances.
Scholarships are awarded through merit-
based criteria to recognise excellence and
reward outstanding candidates.
UQ Graduate School scholarship
schemes for students are allocated in three
competitively based rounds each year – in
March, July and November – and include:
International Postgraduate
Research Scholarships (IPRS)
Funded by the Australian Government,
the IPRS are awarded to outstanding
international RHD students to cover tuition
fees and Overseas Student Health Cover
costs for commencing students, and
are based on academic merit, research
experience and/or potential, and alignment
with UQ’s research strengths.
UQ Centennial Scholarships (UQCent)
The UQ Centennial Scholarships are premier
UQ scholarships awarded to outstanding
candidates. The scholarship provides a
living allowance for commencing students
who have been awarded an IPRS, to
the equivalent value of the Australian
Postgraduate Award.
Australian Centre for International
Agricultural Research (ACIAR)
Fellowships
The primary aim of the ACIAR Fellowship
Scheme is to enhance research capacity
in ACIAR’s partner country institutions.
Students at UQ on an ACIAR fellowship
enjoy all the support services available to
Australia Awards Scholarship students.

Endeavour Postgraduate
Scholarship
The Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship
provides financial support for up to four
years for international students to undertake
a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or
PhD level, either by coursework or research
in any field of study in Australia.
The Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship
aims to:
– enable high-achieving international
students to undertake a postgraduate
qualification either by coursework or
research in their chosen fields of study in
Australia
– strengthen bilateral ties between Australia
and the participating countries
– showcase Australia’s education sector
– strengthen mutual understanding
between the people of Australia and
recipients’ home countries
– build international linkages and networks.

OPPORTUNITIES
Many international students at UQ are
funded by scholarships from their home
governments or other funding bodies.
For more information on these scholarships,
you should contact the Ministry of Education
or other appropriate government agency
directly in your home country.
Some multinational aid organisations
and other large corporations also provide
scholarship funding for international
students. If you wish to apply for assistance,
please contact the nominated administrator
within the organisation directly.

UQ Scholarships
UQ International Scholarships (UQI)
UQI scholarships support RHD candidates
who are strongly endorsed by their
School or Institute, but have not secured
an International Postgraduate Research
Scholarship (IPRS) and UQ Centennial. UQI
scholarships provide tuition fees and a living
allowance to international RHD students
to the equivalent value of the Australian
Postgraduate Award.
UQ International Tuition Fee
Scholarships (UQTUITION)
The UQI Tuition Fee Scholarship is awarded
to high-quality RHD students undertaking
a research project in one of UQ’s research
strengths, and already holds a competitively
awarded living allowance scholarship from
another source. This scholarship will provide
cover for tuition fees only.

SCHOLARSHIPSCHEMES
English Language Scholarships (ELS)
UQ offers a limited number of English Language
Scholarships exclusively for prospective
international students. This program assists
PhD and MPhil candidates who require
additional English language training to help
them meet the English language proficiency
standard required for entry.
You will automatically be considered for an
ELS when you apply for a package offer for
RHD and English tuition at UQ. Your application
should include evidence of your most recent
IELTS or TOEFL test report, and evidence of
how your tuition fees are to be covered.
This scholarship is available to RHD
students who will be self-funded or hold an
externally funded scholarship. The ELS is not
available to RHD students who wish to be
considered for a UQ-awarded scholarship.
Top Up Assistance Program (TUAP)
The Top Up Assistance Program supports
RHD candidates receiving a foreign
Government scholarship or sponsorship
with a living stipend below the Postgraduate
Award, and who are strongly endorsed by
their School or Institute. The scholarship
will provide a top up to the value of the
Australian Postgraduate Award
