STUDENT SERVICES
UQ’s Student Services staff are
committed to helping all UQ students
successfully manage life at university,
and offer a range of support services.
You can attend group seminars and
workshops, make individual appointments, or
access online resources in the following areas:
Disability support
UQ is committed to making teaching,
learning, and the physical environment
accessible for all students. If you have a
disability, contact a Disability Advisor prior to
your arrival at UQ, giving as much notice as
possible. We can offer a range of services
including liaising with UQ staff on your
behalf, note-taking, organising alternative
print formats, and providing assistive
technology.

International Student Advisors
International Student Advisors provide a
range of support services for international
students from before arrival through
to departure. These services relate to
studying at UQ and living in South-East
Queensland. International Student Advisors
can also answer questions about health
services, family matters, schooling or
childcare, working on a student visa,
contacting government departments, and
understanding university processes.
Student counselling
Starting university can be an exciting and
rewarding time, but it can also be a time
of change and stress. If you need to talk
about some of the issues in your life (past
or present) that may be affecting your ability
to cope, why not see a student counsellor?
A safe place to “let off steam”, counselling
provides somewhere to talk about problems
— from everyday hassles to those that
seriously affect your ability to function at
university — and is an excellent opportunity
to work out solutions.

New to UQ
Student Services staff can help you settle in
to university life, whatever your background.
Transition Advisors can help if you are
unfamiliar with how the tertiary environment
works, particularly if you are someone
who is the first person in your family to
attend a university or are from a culturally
and linguistically diverse background. If
you attend the
JSAPP
session, you will
be introduced to a peer mentor who will
provide guidance and support during your
first semester.
Student Services also conducts a peer
mentor program that provides further
support for those new to UQ.

Incoming Exchange student
“Having studied in several countries
I greatly appreciated the excellent
support offered by Student Services.
Managing your courses is one thing,
but the soft skills I gained from different
courses offered by Student Services
(time and stress management, mind-
mapping, effective note-taking, how to
write excellent essays, how to reference
correctly etc.) helped me become a
better student. I truly believe that every
university should offer such a great
variety of soft-skill courses. They helped
me become more organised, focused
and determined.”
