UQ St Lucia has many shops, three
banks, several automatic teller or
banking machines (ATMs), as well as a
post office, pub, music store, pharmacy,
optometrist, print shop, hairdresser,
theatre, and travel agent.
The Wednesday markets offer a range
of handcrafted and other items for sale,
including gifts and fashion. Cafés and grocery
stores are a short walk or bus ride away.
UQ Ipswich offers a food outlet, and is
only a short distance from shops in the
Ipswich city centre.
UQ Herston has access to Royal Brisbane
Hospital shops, including food outlets,
ATMs, post office, newsagent, gift shop and
pharmacy; and is only three kilometres from
the Brisbane central business district.
UQ Gatton has an ATM, post office,
bookshop and food outlets, and also
hosts several Walkway markets each year
where local growers and suppliers sell their
products on campus.
BUYBOOKS
You will probably need to buy textbooks
and other equipment for your studies,
but you can also borrow books from the
UQ Library.
You can buy secondhand books and other
equipment, such as laboratory coats, at the
Secondhand Bookshop at UQ St Lucia or
the UQ Gatton bookshop.
The bookshops at the St Lucia, Ipswich,
and Gatton campuses stock new textbooks,
stationery and other materials.
The Herston Medical Bookshop stocks
textbooks, medical titles, medical equipment,
and a wide range of charts and models.

community is reflected in UQ’s wide
variety of on-campus food outlets.
At UQ St Lucia you can buy light snacks,
hot meals, Asian noodles, vegetarian dishes,
pizza, pasta, kebabs, burgers, barbecues,
sushi, sandwiches and rolls, cakes, lollies,
and hot lunches from the many food outlets
on campus.
The campus has several UQU refectories
(cafeterias) that carry a range of certified and
labelled organic, gluten-free, vegetarian and
halal food products; and there are numerous
coffee shops and coffee carts.
UQ Ipswich has a licensed café. Club
Med Café operates at UQ Herston, along
with Royal Brisbane Hospital cafés and
Subway; and UQ Gatton has a club, Dining
Hall and the Walkway Café.
