Who is an
international
student?
You are an international student if you are:
– a Temporary Resident (visa status) of
Australia
– a Permanent Resident (visa status) of New
Zealand, or
– a resident or citizen of any other country.
You are not an international student if you are:
– an Australian citizen (living in Australia or
as a resident overseas),
– an Australian Permanent Resident
(visa status), or
– a New Zealand citizen.

Applicants for standalone or package
offers including a Bachelor Degree, Masters
Degree by Coursework, or Research Higher
Degree, plus UQ Study Abroad or Exchange
programs are eligible to participate in SVP.
Associate Degrees, Graduate Certifcates and
Graduate Diplomas are not eligible for SVP.

determine when you should submit your
application to give you enough time to
obtain your visa.

For some programs there are specifc early
deadline dates. Make sure you check your
program to see if it has an earlier deadline
in the Postgraduate Coursework Programs
section of this guide (pages 28-55) or on
the UQ Courses and Programs website at
www.uq.edu.au/study.
Documentation required
With your application, you will need
to submit a certifed copy of your fnal
academic transcript and award that includes
a comprehensive grading scale.
To demonstrate your English Language
Profciency, you must also provide a clear
copy of your latest TOEFL/IELTS results,
along with the TRF/Registration numbers for
these tests.
Any documents in languages other than
English must be accompanied by certifed
offcial English translations.
If you are waiting for transcripts or
current results, please submit the evidence
of English Language Profciency and
post-secondary results you have so far,
and then, when you have the updated
results, immediately forward them to UQ’s
International Admissions section. Make sure
you mark them clearly with your UQ student

Notes:
A
certifed copy of an original document
is one
that has been certifed as a true copy of the original
by one of the following: an authorised agent of
the University (see www.uq.edu.au/international/
edureps), a university or college registrar, a school
principal, a Justice of the Peace, a Notary Public
(i.e. practising solicitor), or an examining authority.
Authorised agents
of the University must include
ALL of the following: agency company stamp,
signature of the agency staff who sighted the
original document/s, and a certifcation statement
saying that the original has been sighted.

VISAS
All international students applying to study
in Australia must have a student visa.
You must undertake programs on campus
at UQ on a full-time basis to be eligible to
apply for an Australian student visa.
Applications and processing of student
visas can take up to six months and you
will have to pay an application fee. This
does not apply to SVP applicants. It is your
responsibility to ensure that you receive your
visa in enough time to commence studies at
the University.
