Academic workshops
Throughout the semester and during
Orientation Week (“O Week”), Student
Services offers free workshops covering
a range of academic topics, such as time
management, preparing for exams, and
avoiding plagiarism. Check session dates

JSAPP
The Jump Start Academic Preparation
Program
(JSAPP)
takes place during the
week before Orientation Week.
JSAPP
offers
a
friendly and supportive environment
in which to make the transition to a new
educational institution and cultural setting. It
also provides a great opportunity to meet other
students and make contact with staff who
will support you during your degree studies.
JSAPP
covers topics that will help you
develop your academic and study skills, and
learn about the IT and online tools used at
UQ. The program will also introduce you to
a peer mentor who can give you academic
and social guidance and support during
your frst semester.

English language support
If you need extra English language support
while you are studying at UQ, you can
access a free English language support
course through UQ’s Institute of Continuing
& TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ). This course
is available exclusively to UQ international
students and UQ students who are not from
an English speaking background.
English for Academic Communication
(EAC)
EAC
is an eight-week, part-time, concurrent
course offered throughout each semester.
You can choose from whichever skills
streams will help you most: writing, speaking,
listening, and reading class options.

ANDORIENTATION
These compulsory information sessions
for international students take place
before regular classes begin.
Getting Started
Attending a
Getting Started
session within
a few days of your arrival is very useful. This
one- to two-hour session is designed for
students new to Brisbane and covers:
– living in Brisbane (maps, transport,
banking, shopping and health insurance)
– getting established in a new city
– campus map and information
– how to enrol (register) in courses
– how to get your UQ student ID card
– Orientation (“O Week”) information
– banking in Australia.
These sessions are also run weekly
throughout the year and more often during
intake periods.
