Holmesglen International Student Prospectus 2014
Services and Facilities
Holmesglen’s ongoing commitment to the future success of our
international students is demonstrated by the wide range of support
services available to students throughout their studies at Holmesglen.
Orientation Sessions
As many students find life in Australia quite different from life in
their home country, orientation activities have been designed to help
students become familiar with Australian culture and customs and to
introduce students to the Institute and its services.
All students will be provided with an orientation information pack.
This information pack details many aspects of living and studying in
Melbourne and introduces students to life in Australia. In the week
preceding their course, students will be provided with an orientation
program that will further develop on the material supplied in the
information pack.
Orientation sessions include information about enrolment, facilities
and services available at Holmesglen, Australian culture and customs,
safety in Melbourne and how to find employment. Orientation sessions
are a great way of meeting other students.
Cost of Living
Melbourne is a reasonably priced city providing good quality and
affordable accommodation. Students will need $18,610 per year
(excluding tuition) to cover living expenses including accommodation,
food, transport, entertainment, clothing and books. Accommodation
costs range from $120-180 (flat/apartment accommodation) to
$250 (homestay) per week. Food costs about $90-110 per week and
transport costs can cost $28-35 per week.
Medical Services
Doctors are available at the Chadstone and Moorabbin campuses.
Consultations with the Institute doctors can be made on appointment.
There is no charge for this service. Medical Centres are located in the
vicinity of all campuses.
Overseas Student Health Cover
As an international student, it is a condition of your student visa that
you have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration
of your stay in Australia. OSHC gives you access to out of hospital and
in hospital medical services to help you maintain your health whilst
studying in Australia.
Allianz Global Assistance is Holmesglen’s preferred OSHC provider.
