UQ International Study Guide - page 6

GREAT
EXPERIENCES
Why not study overseas for up to a year
while gaining credit towards your UQ
degree?
An exchange can be the adventure of a
lifetime: improve your foreign language
skills, broaden your career and academic
opportunities, and gain a different
perspective on your studies. As UQ has
exchange agreements with more than 185
institutions in 41 countries, you will have a
broad choice.
Some UQ programs also include practical
experiences as a core study component.
You might work in a campus laboratory, on
an island, or down a mine. You may go to
another country. Or you might just visit a
public art gallery.
If you prefer to stay close to home, you
can take advantage of the many extra-
curricular activities on offer, such as our
Summer and Winter Research programs,
hundreds of clubs and societies, and our
intensive language training programs.
HIGHLY
AWARDED
TEACHERS
Our teachers share a passion for excellence
in education that has led to them
receiving more national teaching awards
than any other Australian university.
This includes a 100 per cent success rate
in the Carrick Citations for Outstanding
Contributions to Student Learning, and 95
Australian Learning and Teaching Council
awards and citations since 1997. Both awards
recognise quality teaching practice and
outstanding contributions to student learning.
UQ offers a flexible, student-centred
approach to learning with a strong online
program and innovative teaching modes,
and has more than 2800 highly qualified
academic staff dedicated to teaching
and research. Many are recognised
internationally as leaders in their fields and
all are committed to teaching excellence
and outstanding mentorship that leads to
well-rounded graduates.
LEADING
RESEARCHERS
Our researchers are answering some of
the toughest questions facing humanity.
With eight internationally recognised
Institutes on-site, along with leading
academics on staff, you will have the
opportunity of studying with some of the
world’s best researchers.
UQ has its own commercialisation
company, UniQuest (widely recognised
as one of Australia’s largest and most
successful), and is a member of the
prestigious “Group of Eight” research-
intensive universities in Australia. UQ also
topped the nation in the 2012 round one
funding of the Australian Research Council
Discovery Projects Scheme.
Recent research highlights include
discovering a new disease, HBSL; improving
biopsy methods; developing microalgae
as a “green power” biofuel; investigating
pain control medicines derived from spider
venom; and determining ways to prevent
depression.
At UQ, you will join a global network of
