DESCRIPTION
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS*
DURATION
General English (GE) GE develops English language communication skills through a balance of speaking,
listening, reading and writing tasks. GE is an ideal study option for students who
want to improve their ability to communicate in English for social or work situations,
or progress to a more advanced ICTE-UQ course.
GE is offered at 7 levels (Pre-elementary
to Advanced). Students from a Pre-
elementary level are eligible to enrol.

English for Academic
Purposes (EAP)
EAP prepares students for success in academic study and in the IELTS test. Course
materials and assessment refect the type of activities and learning environment
students experience in university or academic studies. EAP II is also delivered at UQ
Ipswich in January for fve weeks subject to demand.
EAP I: IELTS 5 (no sub-bandscore less
than 5)
EAP II: IELTS 5.5 (no sub-bandscore less
than 5.5)

ESP#: Bridging
English Program
(ESP:BEP)
ESP:BEP is an English language entry pathway to UQ degree programs. It develops
the specialist English language skills needed for UQ degree program entry and
studies.

International Business
Communication
(EIBC)
EIBC develops confdence to use English to communicate in real world business
situations. Class exercises are based on a weekly business theme and include role
plays, case studies, group and individual projects.
EIBC I: IELTS 5 (5 in Speaking and
Writing)

EIBC II: IELTS 5.5 (5.5 in Speaking and
Writing)
Advanced English
Communication Skills
(AECS)
AECS focuses on developing advanced listening and speaking skills through a
wide variety of authentic study materials and a class project such as writing and
performing a live play.

ESP#: Teaching of
English to Speakers
of Other Languages
(ESP:TESOL)
ESP:TESOL develops English language communication skills, knowledge of current
English language teaching methods and prepares students for the Cambridge ESOL
Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) administered at the end of the course.

ESP#: Tourism and
Hospitality (ESP:T&H)
ESP:T&H develops English language communication skills for short-term
employment or a professional career in the tourism and hospitality industries.

ESP#: Translation and
Interpreting (ESP:T&I)
ESP:T&I is delivered in partnership with UQ’s Confucius Institute. It is designed
exclusively to develop the English language, translation and interpreting skills of
native-Chinese speakers for professional purposes.

Go Global Program Go Global is a program designed to fast track the global careers of young graduates.
It includes a combination of English language skills training, workplace skills
development and an eight-week professional internship placement.
Option A: IELTS 5 (no sub-bandscore

less than 5.5)

Online IELTS
Online IELTS is internet based IELTS test preparation designed to develop test
familiarisation and the individual speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
assessed in the IELTS test.
No entry requirements for Online IELTS.
One, two and three month subscriptions available.

If you wish to improve your English,
you can undertake an intensive English
language course at UQ’s Institute of
