This professional program provides translating and conference interpreting for highly competent students in the Japanese and English
languages. It covers four broad, interlinked areas of study: theoretical and practical training in interpreting techniques; theoretical and
practical training in translation techniques; training in ancillary skills such as public speaking and job-specifc research; and training in
professional areas such as ethics and business skills.

places are available and entry is very competitive. Work experience is desirable but not essential. You will sit an
aptitude test set by the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies (for which a fee may apply).

Focusing on museum history, theory and practice, this suite of programs delivers the professional training required for pursuing a

Music Therapy
This program provides you with advanced knowledge in music, music therapy, and psychological theory. You will be shown how to
improve a client’s health, e.g., in cognitive functioning, motor skills, emotional and affective development, behaviour skills and quality
of life, by using music experiences (such as singing, songwriting, listening to and discussing music, moving to music) to achieve
treatment goals and objectives. As a graduate you will demonstrate advanced practical musical skills on a portable instrument, a
keyboard instrument, and in singing and fuently articulating a range of musical styles. You will develop high levels of music therapy
skills suitable for client groups of all ages.

Admission requirements
Bachelor of Music in a feld other than Music Therapy, plus audition and interview; or three-year Bachelor
degree preferably in psychology or an allied health discipline, plus audition and interview. You will be
required to provide two statements from referees, a curriculum vitae (resume), and a personal statement
detailing why you should be selected and what experience you have with musical instruments. You may
send an audio or video recording and be interviewed by telephone. Auditions will comprise:
Essential:
Performance on primary instrument – three pieces of contrasting styles.
Desirable:
a] Performance
on piano/guitar at a level suitable to accompany singing; or b] Vocal performance self-accompanied on
piano and/or guitar. You must also meet the prerequisite introductory psychology courses PSYC1020,
PSYC1030, and PSYC1040 or their equivalents from other universities.

Placements: You will be required to undertake several supervised placement courses (relocation not required) to be eligible for registration as a music therapist.

Placements: To meet NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) guidelines, you must do 120 hours of feld practice in translation and interpreting,
which includes active translation and interpreting tasks as well as other learning activities such as attending interdisciplinary meetings, conferences, an agency visit and
interpreter-assisted court hearings (all in Brisbane area).
