accommodation
UNSW is located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, one of
the best, most desirable suburban areas in the city. Excellent
restaurants, cheap eating cafes, well stocked supermarkets
and great range of services such as banks, chemists,
grocers, malls, stores and shops make this an exciting and
convenient place to live.
As you would expect, there is a wide range of
accommodation available close to UNSW, including individual
or shared apartments (often called “fats” in Australia) or
homestay with an Australia family.
UNSW has a range of great accommodation, either on
campus or within a few minutes’ walk. These include
residential colleges, apartments, terraces and the
recommended UniLodge.

food
The Kensington campus provides students with an extensive
international selection of food, coffee and gourmet treats
from many countries.
Aussie pies, sandwiches, burgers and chips, foccacias,
wraps, gourmet salads, cakes, drinks and a wide selection of
fast food makes eating on campus a global experience. For
the coffee lover, the campus has more than a dozen excellent
coffee stops where you can relax with friends, or for a quick
between-lecture break, try one of our coffee carts.
In the evenings, just a few minutes walk from campus, the
local streets are alive with noisy cafes, eating houses, fast
food outlets, more than 70 halal restaurants and dozens of
cheap international restaurants.
Whatever your taste in food, whatever your home country,
you’ll never go hungry at UNSW.

safety
Sydney is internationally acknowledged as one of the most
beautiful cities in the world. Clear blue skies, friendly people,
a beautiful harbour and beaches and a healthy outdoor
lifestyle make this a great place to live.
According to the latest fgures from the NSW Bureau of Crime
Statistics and Research, crime in the Randwick area is well
below the NSW average, which means it is a safe and relatively
secure area in Sydney. That’s great news for you, and for us, as
your safety is one of our most important considerations.
UNSW also has its own on-campus security service and
a series of safety contact points in case of a campus
emergency. In Australia, the police are well respected and
available to assist in an emergency. They can be contacted
on 000 at any time.
