UnsW institute of languages offers General english programs that assist you to develop your english
language skills for a wide variety of situations.
General English
Basic User
Intermediate User
Profcient User
General english
Our General English programs are designed for students
who want to be able to communicate effectively in English
in social, academic and work situations.
These programs are offered at 6 levels to suit your ability from
elementary to advanced. Class activities focus on building
spoken communication skills and fuency and accuracy in
both spoken and written language. You will learn practical
English and develop the skills and confdence to enable
you to use English in real situations outside the classroom.
General English is often the starting point for students
who commence at a lower level of profciency and want
to prepare themselves for university entry.
General English leads directly to Academic English
and Professional English programs.
At the higher levels, General English can also prepare you
for the Cambridge First Certifcate in English (FCE) and
Certifcate in Advanced English (CAE) examinations.
entry requirements
You will be interviewed and given a UNSW Institute of
Languages Placement Test on your frst day to assess
which class you should be placed in. To be placed in classes
for Cambridge Examination Preparation, you will require a
minimum upper intermediate score in the placement test.
