Safe, welcoming

and inclusive

Adelaide has low crime rates and

in 2012 it was listed as the safest

city in Australia*. With more than

120 nationalities represented in

South Australia, it’s a multicultural

hub, accepting of all races and

religions. This means you are free and

encouraged to practise your culture

The best of shopping

and eating

From leading fashion labels and

international brands to designer

threads and funky, handmade

gifts, you can find it all and more

in Adelaide’s many retail strips and

shopping malls. If local art and craft

markets are more your thing, you will

find plenty of them too.

If you are a food lover or enjoy

international cuisine, you have come

to the right city. In Adelaide we are

internationally known for our love

of all things food. The historical

Central Market is where you will find

the freshest local quality produce

available. We also have plenty of

restaurants and cafes from just about

every cuisine you can think of, plus

there’s likely to be a supermarket that

sells food from your home country.

Festivals and events

South Australia is known as the

Festival State and Adelaide is

home to over 400 major events

throughout the year. The Adelaide

Fringe Festival, Adelaide Festival

of Arts, OzAsia, Adelaide Cabaret

Festival, Womadelaide and Adelaide

International Guitar Festivals are

amongst some of the internationally

recognised arts and music events. You

will find many free events and festivals

to attend, particularly during summer

when Adelaide is buzzing with art,

culture, food and wine events taking

place all over the city.

Entertainment

Adelaide has thriving local live music,

theatre and arts scenes. From local

bands, music festivals, street

performers, and visiting international

artists, there’s always something to

see, hear or experience.

Sport

Sport plays a large role in South

Australian life and Adelaide’s sporting

calendar is brimming with major

sporting events. There is cricket,

soccer, tennis, car racing, swimming

and cycling just to name a few.

Ride with the Santos Tour Down

Under World Tour Cycling Race, see

a cricket test at the historic Adelaide

Oval or learn the sport of Australian

rules football. Whatever sport you

enjoy playing or watching, you’ll find

it in Adelaide.

Education

Producing Nobel Laureates and

Rhodes Scholars, Adelaide has a

long and strong history of education

stemming over 130 years. As well as

TAFE SA, Adelaide is home to five
