International Guide 2013/2014
Guardianship requirements for
students under 18 years of age
If you are under 18 years of age, a condition of your student visa
will be that you have suitable welfare arrangements in place before
your arrival in Australia. Chisholm welcomes students less than 18
years of age, but students must be a minimum of 16 to start study
at Chisholm.
Applicants and their parents or legal guardians must complete the
Chisholm Care Arrangement form and submit it to the International
Offce at the time of accepting their Letter of Offer. This form asks
the parents or legal guardians to nominate welfare arrangements.
Chisholm under 18 welfare program
Chisholm is proud to offer a comprehensive welfare program for
students aged under 18.
• Each student is assigned a welfare offcer
• Regular coffee catch-ups are held, providing students with the
opportunity to share stories and ideas about settling into life
in Australia as well meet new friends in the same age group
• Attendance and progress reporting is done for each student
• The Chisholm welfare offcer will visit the homestay home
of each student regularly (where Chisholm is the nominated
guardian)
• The Chisholm welfare offcer will remain in regular contact
with class teachers to monitor the welfare of the student.
Student guardian visa
Parents, relatives or legal guardians of a student less than 18 may
apply for a student guardian visa, which allows them to remain in
Australia while the student requires guardianship. The Department
of Immigration and Citizenship has criteria for assessing this visa.

Under 18 guardianship
Parental nomination of a suitable relative to provide
welfare arrangements
The parents or legal guardian have the opportunity to nominate a
suitable guardian who is already living in Australia. Once nominated,
this person will be assessed by the Department of Immigration and
Citizenship. Visit
www.immi.gov.au f
or more information.
Parental nomination of Chisholm as guardian
The parent or legal guardian may nominate Chisholm as guardian.
In this case, Chisholm requires the student to live in homestay until
their guardianship period ends, which is when the student turns
18. Where Chisholm is guardian, Chisholm will issue a CAAW notice
(Confrmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare) with the
Confrmation of Enrolment (CoE). Both should be submitted to the
visa processing offce for student visa assessment.
