This program will provide you with a broad understanding of health care and human biomedical sciences, and is particularly
suitable if you intend to enrol in a postgraduate professional degree (e.g., medicine, dietetics) or wish to enter the non-clinical
health workforce (e.g., health promotion, public health) to plan and deliver efficient quality healthcare. You will take courses in
anatomy, physiology, public health, health promotion, health systems, health ethics, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
health. In the final year, you will undertake work experience through an industry placement.

This program prepares you for a career in health and physical education as well as sport education and related areas. You will
engage in problem-based learning in “real-life” situations throughout your degree and will learn about teaching health, sport
and physical activity, in both school and community environments. Practical experience complements in-depth learning of the
complex and diverse nature of human movement from physiological, biomechanical, socio-cultural, psychological, teaching

The graduate entry MBBS program produces highly skilled doctors capable of meeting future challenges in a wide variety of careers.
Years 1 and 2 (Phase 1) are designed to provide a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare you for clinical practice. Years
3 and 4 (Phase 2) consist of 10 core clinical rotations. The curriculum emphasises problem-based learning and group work. You
will work cooperatively on a carefully planned series of patient-centred problems, each designed to highlight principles and issues in
health and disease. The program’s key features include the simultaneous learning of basic, clinical, biological and social sciences; the
improved teaching of communication skills; the use of learning approaches that encourage lifelong learning skills; the incorporation
of ethics and professional development as an integral part of the program; and the incorporation of information technology and
computing skills to ensure that you can use technological advances to improve your learning skills and knowledge acquisition.

Admission requirements
The MBBS is a graduate entry program which means that you must complete
an approved bachelor degree prior to commencing medicine. There are two
pathways for entry: Provisional entry for School leavers and Direct entry for
graduates.
Provisional entry for School leavers:
Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) in the
year of application, including Year 12 English (or acceptable alternatives), OP1
(or equivalent); and undertake Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences
Admissions Test (UMAT) or the International Student Admissions Test (ISAT),
achieving a score of at least 50 in each section of the UMAT or a score of at least
60 in each section of the ISAT. An offer is conditional on gaining admission to a
bachelor degree program (first degree) at UQ in the year following completion of
grade 12 and completing the first degree in the minimum time permitted with a
grade point average of 5 on a 7-point scale.
Direct entry for graduates:
Grade point average of 5 on a 7-point scale in
the most recently completed key degree (bachelor, postgraduate honours,
postgraduate diploma, masters or PhD) and have taken either the Graduate
Australian Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT) in the two years prior to
proposed commencement, or the North American Medical College Admission Test
(MCAT) in the three years prior to proposed commencement.
Special note:
UQ is currently considering the introduction of a four-year
masters program to replace the MBBS from 2015, subject to approval.
Should the MBBS be replaced by another program, the conditions of entry
into a replacement program will be the same as those detailed above for
provisional entry into the MBBS.
