International Guide 2013/2014
Homestay accommodation
Homestay accommodation provides the ultimate experience of life
in Australia by living with an Australian family. Living with a family
may mean a couple with or without children, a mother or father
with children or a single woman or man. Pets may also be in the
home.
You have the opportunity to nominate your preferences – for
example, a no-smoking house or no pets – when you complete your
homestay request form.
Chisholm uses Student Accommodation Services, a company that
has been serving homestay students and families for many years.
Your homestay fees include:
• A carefully chosen family that has been screened and
interviewed by Student Accommodation Services
• A room of your own with bed and linen
• A desk, lamp, chair, bin and wardrobe
• Use of a shared family bathroom
• Utility bills such as gas, water and electricity
• Breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week
• Access to the home landline (usage charges paid by the
student)
• Access to the internet (may incur a small additional fee).
Your homestay family will:
• Help you to adjust to life in Australia
• Open their home to you and you will become part of the family
during your stay
• Explain the house rules to you
• Answer any questions you have about the house
• Show you how to use items around the house such as the
heater and washing machine
• Answer any questions you have about Australia and help you
to understand life in Australia
• Show you how to use the kitchen appliances so you can also
make some of your own food, such as your lunch to take with
you.
